Speaking of time, are you aware titanium was first discovered in Cornwall, Great Britain by William Gregor, the vicar in the Creed parish and amateur geologist in 1791? Gregor recognized the use of a new aspect in ilmenite when he found black sand with a stream inside nearby parish of Manaccan. It seemed the sand was attracted by the magnet, so Gregor analyzed the sand and determined the presence of two metal oxides: iron oxide and a whitish metallic oxide he couldn't identify. Realizing the unidentified oxide contained metallic that would not match any known elements, Gregor reported his findings on the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall and within the German science journal Crell's Annalen. Interestingly a few years later the oxide was independently discovered in 1795 by Prussian chemist Martin Heinrich Klaproth, of what we have now call Slovakia. Klaproth named the new element for that strong Titans in Greek mythology. The discovery that electromagnetic waves are capable of transmitting information sparked the invention of radio. The technology scaled like the old inventions in the telegraph as well as the telephone. According to some researchers, the amplitude modulation technique originated in the experimental and theoretical work of Leblanc, in 1886, Mayer (1875) and Rayleigh (1894). For example, the very first successful attempt to transmit audio signals over telephone lines happened inside mid-1870s and this may be called one of the first transmissions happening by using some type of amplitude modulation. The Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy sponsored award is one of the most competitive categories in the Trade Association Forum’s annual awards. It recognises a successful initiative, by a trade association, to tackle an important issue that will drive the future prosperity and growth of its members. The British Glass entry features its three-year programme to facilitate collaboration between glass manufacturers and government to create a decarbonisation action plan – setting out the sectors’ priorities for energy efficiency and decarbonisation in areas such as research and development, technology implementation, energy infrastructure, recycling, skills and funding. In April of this year all ten of the UK’s large-scale glass manufacturers signed up to the voluntary action plan. Are you late for everything or simply the main things?
